Why pray the rosary?

What Pope Benedict XVI says...

The Rosary is not a practice relegated to the past, like a prayer from another time that we think of with nostalgia. The Rosary, on the other hand, is experiencing a new spring.

(In the prayer of the Rosary) I entrust to you the most urgent intentions of my ministry, the needs of the Church, the great problems of humanity: peace in the world, the unity of Christians, dialogue among all cultures.

To receive grace and then bring it to our brothers and sisters...

May Mary help us to welcome within us the grace that emanates from her mysteries, so that through us she may "irrigate" society, starting from our daily relationships, and purify it of so many negative forces by opening it to the newness of God.

The Rosary, when prayed authentically, not in a mechanical and superficial way, but in a profound way, brings peace and reconciliation. It contains within itself the healing power of the most holy Name of Jesus, invoked with faith and love at the centre of every Hail Mary.

Meditating on the Life-giving Word transforms our hearts...

The Rosary, when it is not a mechanical repetition of traditional formulas, is a biblical meditation that makes us retrace the events of the Lord's life in the company of the Blessed Virgin, keeping them, like her, in our hearts.

The Rosary is undoubtedly one of the most eloquent signs of the love that the younger generations have for Jesus and for his mother Mary.

Staying the course in the world we live in...

In today's fragmented world, this prayer helps us to place Christ at the centre, as did the Virgin, who meditated inwardly on everything that was said about her Son, and then on what He did and said.

When we pray the rosary, we relive the important and significant moments in the history of salvation; we go through the different stages of Christ's mission again.

Ad Jesum per Maryam ... let us ask Mary to teach us to love Jesus with her Immaculate Heart...

With Mary, we turn our hearts to the mystery of Jesus. Jesus is placed at the heart of our lives, our times, our cities, through the contemplation and meditation of his holy mysteries of joy, light, sorrow and glory.

Let this good habit not cease; May it continue even with greater zeal, so that, in the school of Mary, the lamp of faith may shine ever more brightly in the hearts of Christians and in their homes.
